I love discovering woodlands I’ve not visited before but to find one so close to home was a big surprise, as the years have gone by I found myself branching further and further afield in search of new woodlands to walk and photograph but after this discovery I will be reappraising the local OS maps to try to establish what I’ve missed.
This photograph captures an old gnarled moss covered Hornbeam tree at the entrance to the wood. It was early morning and the light was reasonably soft as it was diffused by light cloud but just as I was ready to shoot the sun burst out from the cloud and lit up the tree in all its glory. I took this as a good sign; it was going to be a good day and I was going to find lots of wonderful tree subjects. Guess what? It was a great day and a really interesting woodland!
